The Business of Travel

Before frowning the next time you hear that you need to
take a business trip, consider the vacation it can lead
you on. Business travel is more and more common as the
business world becomes truly global. You may find yourself
taking frequent business trips. For those of you that do,
you may find that you can benefit from these trips if your
company allows you to use the mileage and hotel points from
your business travel for personal travel. Each company has
different rules on this so you will want to make sure you
know your company's rules. Your trips to clients and to
meetings may lead to vacations to Europe, sunny islands
or your favorite vacation destination.

Frequent flyer miles are an excellent method to earn free
travel. These miles are based on miles flown and can be
cashed in for free airline tickets once a certain number of
miles have been accrued. Several airlines have
cooperatives and you can transfer your miles between these
companies to earn the quickest free travel possible. Be
sure to check on your company~s policy on booking your own
business trips, as some companies and organizations employ a
particular agent or have a separate department completely
devoted to business travel.

This is mainly possbile only for those people who can book
their own business travel. If you have internal travel
department you may not have options, but you can speak to
them and see if they can accommodate your requests for a
specific airline. Your ability to stick to travelling on
one or two airlines may lead to quicker rewards. Also,
check to see if the airline participates with any other
airlines. Often the miles are interchangeable between some
specified airlines. You then can choose from any of the
participating airlines and earn quicker rewards.

Aside from airline mileage you should also pay careful
attention to the hotel reward points that many chain
hotels offer. You earn points based on your stays at
their chain. You can earn free nights and upgraded rooms
based on the frequency of your trips. It is important,
therefore, to try to stick to one chain of hotels if at
all possible. There are some hotel reward programs that
allow you to transfer your points to airline frequent
flyer programs so that is an easy way to really have your
frequent flyer total skyrocket. You may find similar
programs for car rentals as well.

How much you travel for business, be sure to utilize
frequent flyer and hotel reward programs to earn points and
miles towards your fantasy vacation.
