Calgary, the Canadian city known throughout the world for
its cowboy and rodeo status, has something for everyone.
Calgary is amazingly clean, especially in these times when
crime and poverty seem to run rampant in large. This
beautiful city seems free from the hazards of large-city
life and remains a wonderful vacation spot.

One of the events that Calgary is most famous for is the
Stampede. This annual event began as a rodeo many years ago,
highlighting the cowboys in the area. Today, the Calgary
Stampede has grown to include not only rodeos but is an
event with exhibitions of all kinds, a busy fairway with
exciting rides for the young and old, and a venue for
concerts and fireworks.

The chuck wagon races are one the favourite event at the
Calgary Stampede. You will be able to see covered wagons,
drawn by horses and guided by a cowboy, race around the
oval. You will want to schedule more of them into your next
visit once you get a taste for these rodeo events.

Visiting Calgary doesn't just mean the Stampede! There are
many other attractions that will keep you busy for days on
end. A trip to Heritage Park Historical Village is a
definite must. This replica of a real village from the late
1800's is a great way for you and your family to experience
life in those times. You can take a ride on the steam
locomotive or take a wagon ride around the village. When you
stroll down Main Street you can watch as blacksmiths fashion
horseshoes the old fashioned way before stopping to have a
meal at the Wainwright Hotel.

The Glenbow Museum is another favorite attraction to see
when visiting Calgary. The Glenbow specializes in
paintings, sculptures, photographs, and other pieces of art
featuring a historical look western Canada. These exhibits
chronicle the Native Indians crossed and the settlers
moving from the east.

The Calgary Zoo is an entertaining place with its multitude
of birds, reptiles, and mammals. The zoo also has a
Prehistoric Park that re-enacts the history of the dinosaur.
The day can be enjoyably spent walking among the ostriches,
bears, monkeys, and kangaroos. Food can be had either from a
picnic lunch brought to from one of the many picnic areas or
you can get food from one of the many kiosks around the
park.

There are many other attractions in and around the city of
Calgary that you'll want to make the time to see, depending
on how long your visit is. Calgary also has many parks that
you can spend some leisure time in. Rent a bike or a pair of
rollerblades and roll along the pathways that line the Bow
River.

The downtown area of Calgary offers great shopping with many
designer boutiques fighting for your attention. You'll find
many unique shops that feature local crafts crafted by
Calgarians, as well as crafts from areas throughout Canada.

To plan on how to spend one night in Calgary at the theatre,
you must find out ahead of time what concerts or other
cultural events are taking place. A trip to Calgary is a
trip that you and your family won't soon forget.
