Scuba the Great Barrier Reef

Scuba diving is all about exploring the ocean's depths first
hand. It is a rapidly growing sport that allows individuals
a close and personal view of sea life. Scuba diving is far
more exciting than being confined to a submarine or glass
bottom boat. Australia's Great Barrier Reef is one of the
most spectacular spots in the world to take advantage of
this great sport. This remarkable underwater community is
made up of living coral that forms the very foundation of
the reef. There are sea creatures of every shape and size,
from tiny fish that flit about to monster eels that
stoically guard their rocky lairs in Australia's Great
Barrier Reef.

Scuba is not a word but an acronym that stands for Self
Contained Underwater Breathing Apparatus. The apparatus are
oxygen filled tanks that have a hose connecting them to a
regulator. The diver is supposed to strap the tanks to the
back and use the regulator for breathing. Scuba diving is
similar to snorkeling, the key difference being how deep one
can go with the equipment. While snorkelers must remain at
the water's surface, scuba divers can go to dramatic depths.
However, scuba diving is a well regulated sport and a lot of
training is required before individuals are allowed to dive
to great depths.

So, if you plan a trip to the Australia, it would not be
complete without an excursion to the Great Barrier Reef. You
will need to get to the city of Cairns, which is on the
Northern side of the Australian continent and is closest to
the Reef. If you intend to do scuba diving there, you must
ensure that you have received at least basic instructions or
training about what to do.

There are many Australian based companies and organizations
that plan trips to the reef, providing equipment rental in
the price of their tours. Many travel agents strongly
suggest you take advantage of a tour, since scuba equipment
is quite costly and very heavy and bulky to carry around on
your travels. Additionally, this equipment is guaranteed to
be properly maintained and meet regulations. Furthermore,
you will get the opportunity to meet more divers who have
the same interests as you and your travel party.

Once you see the magnificent views of the Great Barrier
Reef, you will be astounded for life! The live coral is
beautiful and vibrant, as are the many creatures that use
the coral for homes. It is not uncommon to see sting rays,
skates, sea turtles, beautiful rainbow fish, and phenomenal
anemones. Do not miss this phenomenal natural sight!
