Make Your Travel Safe

When you're heading out of town, you'll want to make sure
that you're ready for any situation that might arise. This
could include disease, crime, or loss.

If you are planning to go abroad, do find out if there are
immunizations that you will need. Find out from the health
department of the country you are to planning to visit if
they have any relevant information and suggestions. They
might have some mandatory requirements, of course, while
others may be just recommendations. Check with your doctor
where you can get these required immunizations. And remember
to get them in good time so you can cope with any side
effects before you leave the country.

You will also want to talk with your health insurance
company to see what their policy is in other areas. You may
need to pay for additional coverage for foreign travel, so
be sure that you are covered no matter what happens.

In a foreign country you must avoid drinking tap water and
eating food that is not fully cooked. Uncooked or
semi-cooked food could harbor bacteria. So, make sure your
food is properly cooked to kill any bacteria. You might have
to resist the temptations of trying out any salsas or
guacamoles unless they are made fresh for your order.

Remember to carry some anti diarrhea drugs in case you get
food poisoning. And if you do get it, drink lots of water
and other fluid to re-hydrate yourself. Don't take chances
if your symptoms persist -- do see a doctor, or visit the
local hospital for treatment.

To keep crime at bay, take as little cash as possible, and
keep would-be thieves at arms length by maintaining a low
profile. It's probably a good idea to leave your designer
clothes and jewelry behind. You really wouldn't want to
attract the wrong kind attention from a mugger or thief.

While traveling, it's best to bring traveler's checks
instead of large amounts of cash. Traveler's checks are
much safer because they cannot be cashed unless verified by
two signatories. And, in the eventuality of their loss, they
can be easily replaced with a phone call to the original
dispenser.

In terms of loss, you will want to check with your
insurance policies to see if you can add on to ensure that
your valuable are protected. You might be able to purchase
a little policy for your trip. This can cover things that
you've brought as well as the car that you drive or
souvenirs that you pick up.

All it needs is a little planning to make your trip as safe
as possible. If you take the necessary precautions you will
enjoy your exotic trip as though you're traveling anywhere
in your home town.
