Skiing is a remarkable sport, filled with adventure, skill,
and fun! There is nothing more thrilling than whipping
down the slopes with cold air making cheeks rosy, but often
the price tag that comes with everybodies favorite winter
time sport is too great. With expensive equipment, travel,
and lodging in expensive ski resorts, these trips to winter
time havens can put a dent in your wallet quite quickly.
Instead of have one big blow-out ski trip, you can
certainly stretch your budget to include several runs of
the slopes and get the most bang for your buck!
Skiing equipment is by far the most expensive item. Not that
appropriate cold weather clothing, skis, poles, boots, and
all the other accessories cost less. Therefore, it's a good
idea to ask your friends if they have equipment you can
borrow. Alternatively, you can rent necessary equipment,
including skis, ski poles, boots, and snow boards. Renting
is a better option if you are planning one or two trips to
the slopes only. But, if you're a die-hard skier, then it
will be more economical in the long run to own your
equipment.
Whether you buy or rent the equipment, you will still need
to invest in the correct attire that can protect you from
the extreme weather. If you buy this clothing from a regular
store, you may have to pay a packet, but you can find a
bargain in a sporting goods resale shop or even your local
thrift shop. You can find many quality items like warm,
rugged ski jackets and bibs and even state-of-the-art skis
for a fraction of the cost at these places. You can find
some great deals and special sales being offered at sporting
goods stores. It is also a good idea to check online auction
sites, newspaper classified ads and yard sales to find the
equipment you need for a comfortable price.
Traveling and lodging at ski resorts can also be expensive.
Instead of staying overnight, you may want to take advantage
of a day trip. Many community groups, churches, and
organizations will host trips to local ski resorts.
These money-saving opportunities allow you to travel with a
group of people, save gas on the trip, and return the same
day without accruing a costly lodging bill. If you do
decide to plan a ski vacation, check out your options.
Many smaller resorts offer great deals on ski packages,
including airport transfers, lift tickets, and hotel rooms.
Popular discount travel websites are a great resource for
planning trips as well. See if you can travel with a group
of friends or family to help reduce costs. As the old
saying goes, the more the merrier!
With a bit of planning and wise shopping you can have a
great skiing experience without making a big hole in your
pocket. Nevertheless, you'll enjoy a thrifty trip just as
much as a budget-buster without having to worry about the
bills when you return home.
