Buying A Digital Camera

The invention of camera is one of the biggest
breakthroughs in the human civilization. One can comfort a
gloomy moment of life by looking at the photos of happier
moments of the days gone bye. The transition of camera
from film type camera, into digital camera enhances the
quality of photos and takes away the need for the chemical
processing. My first digital camera was over $700 and had
the amazing resolution of 640x480, fixed focus, no flash
etc. We have sure come a long way from that.

If you decide to buy a digital camera, one thing is sure
that you can go crazy in the sea of choices of brands and
models. It is important to make sure that the camera you
wish to buy supports all the functions you want. You may
want to take time to make a list of features and prices
you were thinking about. You may likely modify the list at
some future time anyway, but it's a good starting point.
when looking, see if the controls are handy, does the
camera fit well in your hand, can the LCD be seen in
different lightning conditions, go right through your
list of other features you want to have. Don't buy for the
sake of cheap price. Very often, especially online,
sellers sell at the cheap rate without accessories such as
batteries or the USB cable or dock. I recommend that you
buy your camera from an authorized source who provides a
valid warranty.

A digital camera is more expensive then an ordinary
camera. It incorporates many advanced features which are
not included in the 35mm camera. You will get different
types of digital cameras in the market. Remember that
every camera will NOT suit your needs. You should buy the
one that will suit your needs and budget. There are lots
of things you will need to consider while buying a camera.
Type of camera, features like flash, zoom, memory,
resolution, battery life and type, your passion and
shopping tips need to be considered.

A very important factor you will consider while buying
digital camera is price. buying one that is within your
budget may not be as easy as you think. It is important
to keep the camera itself low enough so you can budget for
the extra batteries, cases, and memory cards that may be
sold separately. The best thing is to narrow down
your choices into two or three models and then starts
comparing the features and quality, write down your
comments on each model. Don't be carried away by a savvy
sales person. I also recommend to carefully consider brand
names.

Professional digital cameras: Professional cameras are the
best quality cameras used by the professionals. The
professional digital Single Lens Reflex cameras (DSLR) are
very expensive. They produce top quality pictures. They
come with extraordinary optics and sophisticated
accessories and function automatically. Most of these
cameras do not come with lenses so you will need to buy
separately. At the same time, these cameras accept
identical lenses.

Consumer digital cameras: These are the most widely used
digital camera. They can be small, compact, and
lightweight. They are capable of taking very good quality
photos. I recommend at least a 2 megapixle camera for
general use and at least 3 megapixles for printing up to
8x10's of your photos. Some small cameras have very high
megapixles, that go beyond the quality of the lenses.
Price varies according to the features. I also like
cameras powered by standard batteries so it is easy to
keep or get spares.

Prosumer digital cameras: These cameras have very high
quality lenses. You will get the models supporting zooms
lenses and others lenses capable of extra wide angles. They
come with many advanced features like automatic and semi-
automatic controls. You can use different accessories like
filters, remote controls, converter lenses, external
flashes and lots more in prosumer digital cameras.

Extended zoom digital cameras have an 8x optical zoom and
even higher compared to 3X against the current standard for
digicams. It is better to buy the model having image
stabilization if you are using long telephoto lenses. Image
stabilization will prevent the images from getting blurred
by reducing the vibration caused by hands. It should be
remembered that optical stabilization is used in these
cameras but not the digital stabilization.

The kind of camera you will choose will depend on your
needs and applications. A simple point-and-shoot will meet
your needs if you are a snap shooter. For many you can
even buy a printer that supports direct input if you want
to connect your digital camera directly to the photo
printer.
