Hawaii: Our Most Exotic, Alluring State

Hawaii is the state that "beckons." Its romantic charm
and South Seas-like feeling make you feel as though
you're really in another country, state of mind, or
dream world.
Indeed, visions of "Fantasy Island" (which was filmed
there, among many, many other Hollywood productions),
The Total Escape, a honeymooners' restful resort, an
absolute Paradise on Earth, a Nirvana of sorts, are
provoked when visiting these most exceptional islands.
Hawaii's formation and habitat is interesting in
itself. Hawaii was formed from volcanoes and it now has
a chain of islands that are the largest in the world.
You will find attractions there such as the "Grand
Canyon" of the Pacific which measures 3,000 feet deep
and 12 miles wide. There are red sand beaches along
with something unique: black sand beaches. You will see
the petroglyphs of canoes, warriors, and animals carved
into the rocks of the foothills of the islands. And,
all the other oceanic and tropical attractions are in
Hawaii as well. There are humpback whales, green sea
turtles, volcanoes, grand caves formed by ancient lava
tubes and partially filled with water from the sea. The
formations that helped to create the caves are ancient
lava tubes filled with spawning shrimp. The spawning
ship have a tendency to turn the water red.
You might think that all these attractions are spread
out over a wide area but not so. The Hawaiian Islands
are all very close to each other. Some islands are
older than others like the Kauai island which has an
age of about 6 million years. This island boasts itself
as having the most moisture in the system of islands
and has Mount Wai'ale'ale which is supposed to be the
wettest spot in the world.
Pretty impressive, especially when you realize that
the dimensions of Kauai are only 18 x 12 miles. Add to
that the fact that the tallest sea cliffs in the world
rise directly from the ocean to more than 3,000 feet
along Moloka'i's North Shore.
Lanai is the smallest main Hawaiian Island open to
visitors. There are 47 miles of coastline,
but very few swimming beaches.
The second largest of the Hawaiian Islands and a
perfect spot for honeymooners is the island of Maui.
This is Hawaii's second largest and it was created by
two volcanoes named Puu Kukui and Haleakala.
The city and county of Honolulu resides on the third
largest island of Oahu. Iolani Palace is located here
in the downtown district of Honolulu and it adds a
touch of royalty to the place being the United States'
only royal palace.
Then, just to add to the magic of it all, seemingly
defying gravity and all the physics you've ever
studied is Kaena Point, in Oahu. Waves here, from both
directions, come crashing together. During the winter
months, waves at Kaena Point can reach well over 40
feet, higher than anywhere else in Hawaii.
Do you want to go now? This is a tropical paradise
right in the United States and no passport is required.
