I waited on a very crisp, cold November morning for my bus to the airport at Prestwick, Scotland and arrived later that day in a balmy, palm-lined Tenerife.
I was staying with my friends Ken and Isabel Johnstone at their beautiful Tenerife apartment at Regency Country Club in the hills a little above Los Christanos, near Playa de Las Americas in the south of the island.

The Regency Country Club is in the village of Chayofa where the staff were very friendly and helpful and the apartment roomy with a wonderful view towards the sea over the club’s fantastic “infinity” swimming pool.
The island is fun to explore… It was marvelous to be drinking cold lattes, with the sea almost lapping at your feet in Garachico, next to an old castle, with a temperature of 26C while at home in Britain, Ken & Isabel’s children were sending emails of snow in their garden and record breaking -15C temperatures.
The central volcano Teide is very unusual and definitely worth visiting. It has an almost moonscape quality.
My favourite eating experience was eating paella, again a few meters from the ocean in Candelaria, with the immense, impressive statues of the founding fathers of the island lining the promenade.
Being a keen walker, I loved going down the gorge at Masca which, as a musician, I always want to call Tosca (an opera)! If you go to the bottom of this gorge you get to the sea and can take a boat round the coast to Los Gigantes with it’s beautiful cliffs and harbour.
Yes , It was lovely to tell friends at home of my various warm and delightful experiences of Ken & Isabel’s Tenerife Apartment Rental while my friends had battled with salt, ice and antifreeze!
